This Week’s Topic: My Life is a Hopeless Mess

A Workable Plan for Escaping Your Mess

“. . . here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. 2 Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you” Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)

Embrace and Erase

I find the above paraphrase wonderful. It captures the essence of what a believer is supposed to do with all the incredible teaching in the previous 11 chapters of Romans.

1.Begin the day, by saying “today is about you, Lord, not me” and do your best to mean it.

2. Embrace whatever comes your way. WHATEVER comes your way, good or bad and do your best to honor God in and through it.

3. Refocus on God during the day as best you can

4. Choose habits which connect with God and begin to erase habits that connect you to all the stuff that disconnects you from God.

Prayer

“Lord, with your help I will embrace what is from you and make difficult choices to erase from my daily habits what is not of you.  Amen”
