This Week's Topic: My Life is a Hopeless Mess

Romans 8 . . . You can apply it

“there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (we) no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. 2 A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ” Romans 8:1-2 (NIV)(MSG)

Application

Picture yourself as accepted, loved, not condemned. God is not “mad at you” rather he cherishes you. Picture the wind blowing away a dark cloud of condemnation over you, never to return.

“You received the Spirit of Sonship and by Him we cry ‘Abba’ , Father’ . . . and if we are children we are heirs of God . ." Romans 8:15,16 (NIV)

Application

Imagine the perfect Father, loving yet a commander of respect. He is your father and delights in you. He may discipline you, but never without saying “Son I love you”, “my daughter, I delight in you” (see Zeph. 3:17)

“what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later” Romans 8:18 (NLT)

Application

ALL suffering is temporary. It will end. The hardest thing is not the last thing. Don’t quit. Realize that pain and this life are God’s training ground to prepare you for Heaven.

“the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words." Romans 8:26 (NLT)

Application

Even the act of directing your inner inexpressible distress toward God, with no words whatsoever, is a powerful act of prayer which is received by God. Many of your most powerful prayers will include no words.

  1. We sing "I am free to run, to dance" but really what Romans tells me is that I am free from a bondage to sin, free from the penalties of my sins, free from the power of death, free to worship God!
