"Jesus is Lord” Romans 10:9
Richard Stearns, in his book Unfinished Believing is Only the Beginning, offers this quote; “the head thinks where the feet stand”
My
feet stand on prosperous American soil.
My problems are paying for college, maintaining two cars, a home with AC,
and whether or not to go out to eat.
Eating is a problem on insofar as I over-consume.
My feet stand in my little section of the “Magic Kingdom” with all
the conveniences of modern living and my head is consumed with “Magic Kingdom
things”.
We
are taught that God the Father, in unity with Jesus the Son, loves all people
and cares about the physical and emotional well being of the hungry, neglected
and oppressed.
We are taught that Jesus is Lord and is right now making all things new,
that he is in the process of setting the world to rights.
Critics wonder how that could possibly be true when considering what the
above pictures depict.
Jesus
reminds critics and believers alike that He has chosen to exercise His Lordship
over all things through people who heed his marching orders to go those in need.
It’s through people that God has chosen to accomplish justice on earth.
And in the end he will hold each of us accountable for whether or not we
have lived for ourselves or for those who need us (read Matthew 25:31-46).
God
is our Father.
Suppose you were the parent of
a multitude of children, some of which were wealthy beyond imagining
(sort of like us even though we don’t think so) and some of which lived in
abject poverty?
How would you feel about that?
How would you think about that?
Would you blame?
If so, whom?
Would you grieve, be angry, or just live with it and think, “oh well, I
guess that’s the best we can do?”
