The Prayer that Unlocks the Power of God

“I am the Lord's servant,” Mary Answered.  "May it be to me as you have said."
Luke 1:38 (NIV)

It is thought by many Bible Scholars that this prayer of Mary may well have been the fundamental
prayer in Jesus household.    It’s a guess, but it’s a guess based on Jewish prayer practices and also
based on everything Jesus taught and did.

Mary said “yes” to God and “no” to herself.   Imagine Jesus being brought up being taught to pray
“may it be to me as you have said” day after day by his mom and dad.    Now read all the “red”
text in the Gospels.   “you must lose your life to find it”  “he who is last will be first”  “he wants
to be great must be the servant of all”   “lord take this cup from me.  But not my will, but Thy
will be done”.

Mary’s “yes” produced the reigning King of he Cosmos.   Jesus “yes” resulted in his resurrection
to glory.

Here’s an exercise.  Take some time to document what has resulted from your “no’s” to God and
contrast that with what has happened in your life as a result of your “yes’s”  to God.

Prayer

“Lord, today I pray this prayer:  ‘May it to be me as you wish.  You will be done, Lord, not mine.'

Amen
