Practice Godly Thoughts.


“Finally brothers, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.” Philippians 4:8

Reflect

Do you recall the definition of a spiritual discipline? A spiritual discipline is something that you do that opens yourself up to God so that God can do in and through you something you could never do on your own. 

Spiritual disciplines must be practiced. No one becomes Christ-like without discipline and work and effort. Just as I cannot lose weight by eating as I wish, I cannot find joy or confidence in God or develop Godly character without making hard choices about how I spend my time and where I direct my efforts. Some things will need to be sacrificed. Other things will need to be adopted as healthy and good practices. 

Yes, Christians must embrace the “D” word, discipline. 

Today’s passage is a command which demands discipline. So what are you doing so that your mind thinks these things? What are you giving up? What are you embracing? Practice, practice, practice! When you fail, just get up again and practice some more. Never give up. It’s like riding one of those bicycles that require you to pedal before the motor kicks in. Maybe you‘ve quit your pedaling too early.
