The Invasion
“He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.” John 1:10-13 (NIV)
Imagine! Jesus, the Creator and Sustainer of all things (Look up Colossians 1:15-17) entered into His creation. Think of how constrained and boxed in he must have felt having given up the full power of being God in order to relate to you and me.
And what does God in Jesus get? He gets people like you and I who often ignore Him, at other times reject Him, and sometimes we even arrogate to ourselves the right to judge you. And more often than not, we live as if we can do life without you.
Even the best of us are so amazingly smug and condescending.
Yet, you invaded enemy territory, treating us not like enemies, rather as cherished, beloved, lost, needy and little children who just don’t know what they are doing. You came, you saw, you took evil’s best shot, got up again, and said to each of us, “now I claim you for my own” Will you receive me?
Prayer
“Lord, when in all of history has a conquering king ever come to those who reject Him, ignore Him, proclaim themselves as your enemies, or, maybe even worse, claim to be your followers without coming even close to walking the talk? I know the answer and the answer is astounding. You’re amazing. Amen”
