This Week's Reading: Galatians
Are You Crazy?
“You crazy Galatians! . . . Have you taken leave of your senses? . . . . 2 Let me put this question to you: How did your new life begin? Was it by working your heads off to please God? Or was it by responding to God's Message to you? 3 Are you going to continue this craziness? For only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God. If you weren't smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it? . . . . anyone who tries to live by his own effort, independent of God, is doomed to failure . . . . The person who lives in right relationship with God does it by embracing what God arranges for him. Doing things for God is the opposite of entering into what God does for you. . . . . ." Galatians 3:1-12 (MSG)
Reflect
Did your life as a Christian begin because you did something good? Now re-read verse 3. Do you actually believe that living independent from God is doomed to failure? Is that how you live now, even though you may claim not to? Reread the last sentence above. How can you be more effective in living it out?
Pray
“Lord, please help me to stop 'doing things for you' and begin 'entering into what You are already doing for me.' Amen”
