Read   The Wisdom of God

“The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”

“Where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense."
1 Corinthians 1:18-23 (NLT)

Reflect

What is God’s message to you today through this passage?

Comment

This is a very relevant passage, is it not? My guess is that most thinking Americans and Europeans today simply and unthinkingly accept the “wisdom” of the 21st century western world that says Christianity is simply ancient myth.

It’s amazing how the wisdom of our world’s best thinkers can be so wrong about so many things. Think how the discoveries Copernicus and Galileo and what we know about special relativity and time and space are totally foreign to what was the commonly accepted wisdom of the age.

It’s almost like the more we know, the less we know. We’re stuck in our little box that studies and knows and believes only what we see in the box no matter how new that thing is  and when a glimmer of light shines from without, unless we can explain it from ‘within the box’ standards, we dismiss it out of hand.

Prayer

“Lord, may knowing you be light by which I see everything else as it actually is, clearly and  as if for the first time. Amen”
