“Not
that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal,
but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”
Philippians 3:12
but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”
Philippians 3:12
We begin
in just two days!
I’m
very excited about this series of messages because for too long many (most? The
vast majority of?) believers, in their most honest of moments, recognize that
the 10% of their lives that others see (the part of us that, like an iceberg, is
visible above the surface) often (rarely?) matches the 90% of us that lies
beneath the surface, the part of us that others don’t see (but much of which,
but not all, our spouses do see!).
Outwardly
we appear nicer, more respectful, we go to church and volunteer. We don't
do drugs and try to control our language. But the roots of who we are
remain unaffected and unmoved. Our emotions still get the best of us.
Things are
going on below the surface that shock us, shame us, and disappoint us.
We miss “the joy of our salvation”.
We may even wonder “has Christ made any difference at all in my life?
It’s
time to take all of that allow God to meet each of us in those places under the
surface that God wants to redeem, repair, heal, and use as raw material out of
which His new kind of Life can emerge.
I
looking forward to taking this journey together with you.

I've learned that the 90% is the ammunition we give the enemy to use against us. In James we are told to "confess our sins one to another that we might be healed". When we no longer feel the need to hide our sins, weaknesses and failures we are freed from those things. Being able to be open with a few close friends, our small group or Sunday School class denies the enemy some of the weapons he uses to blunt our testimony. That gives me the liberty to say to anyone "Do you want to know if I am the same on Sunday morning as I am on Friday night, ask my family, they see it all."
