Dangerous Prayer

“So Jesus, it looks to us like prayer works for you.  How do you do it?”

“This is how you should pray.  ‘Father’ . .  . .”  vs.2

“So, we should talk to God like we would talk to a really good father?   Sounds good. What should I ask for”?

“May your name be kept holy”  vs. 2

‘Holy’ . . . . .you mean I need to ask Father (is it really okay to call God Papa like the apostle Paul does?) to help me live in a way that I cause others to respect Him? What’s that look like?

May your Kingdom come soon”.  vs. 2

Okay, got it.  God needs to train me in his new way of living so that others see it and are compelled by it.   Yeah, to do that I need His help!   I guess that’s why you want me to ask for it.

But one question:   Does that mean I’ve got to change?  Okay, enough said.

What else should I ask for?  It’s not like I need much else.

“Give us each day the food we need”   vs. 3

So you’re saying that I’m actually needy, that regardless of how self sufficient I feel, I’m not . . . so that if God doesn’t supply my needs, then my needs are not supplied?   Wow.   What else?

“Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us”  vs. 4

Whoah.  No way.  I can’t do this, I’ve been burnt too many times.  What?  So that’s why I start with my sins?  You’re saying that if I can see the grace that God gives me then I can, with God’s help, give grace to those who have hurt me?   That’s heavy, but you’re saying it’s doable if I ask, right?

Anything else?   Not that I want to hear more.

“And don’t let us yield to temptation” vs. 4

Yeah, that one’s a no brainer.   I need big time help there!  THANK YOU!!
