This Week's Topic: Homosexuality and Gay Marriage
A Description of 21st Century America?
"they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator . . . . Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. . . . women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones . . . men . . . were inflamed with lust for one another. ."
Romans 1:25-27 (NIV)
Some Thoughts and Implications
1. When we take what we know of God and change it to what we want, we are suddenly idolaters, worshiping what we think. The result is not good. The result is a replay of what happened to Adam and Eve.
2. I do not think that all homosexuals any more than all heterosexuals do nothing but pursue shameful lusts. However I am told by psychologists and sociologists that our culture of glamorized sex has resulted in a teen culture that now values same sex experimentation among teens who are heterosexually oriented.
3. The term “unnatural”, however, does allude to something. Although most who have a same sex orientation did not choose to have it, that does not mean God made them that way. God makes no mistakes, but when God created you it was with flaws and ungodly desires. We are all fallen and broken, even from birth, and some of that brokenness is in our genes. You and I are flawed, sinful, non – mistakes!
4. From a Christian perspective, the worst thing we can do is to follow our hearts. Check out Jeremiah 17:9. Our hearts are untrustworthy and their desires must be retrained. Without retraining we are incredibly susceptible to “exchanging the truth of God for a lie”.
Prayer
“Lord, forgive me for all the times I have tried to read your word in a way that it matches what I want to say. And worse forgive me for reconfiguring in my mind who you are into a God in my image. Amen."
I have an issue with #3 "but when God created you it was with flaws and ungodly desires."
ReplyDeleteMark 10:18 tells us no one is good but God alone. God is good and God cannot produce anything other than good.
Genesis 1:31
:God saw all that he had made, and it was very good" This was said at the end of the 6th day, after everything, including man was made
God did not make us with flaws. God did not put in our hearts ungodly desires. What He did was give us Free Will, which means the ability to act outside His will. Anything outside His will is sin. But, we had the ability to stay in His will or enable our own and the latter was chosen.
I don't mean to be contrary, here, and it may be that I am just not understanding #3 correctly so if this is the case I beg forgiveness.
It is important to know that God does not set us up, and as the text say, does not make mistakes, but also he does not produce anything that is not 'good'.
Also, one more thing: Jeremiah is Old Covenant,
ReplyDeleteNew Covenant states:
"I will put my laws in their hearts and I will write them on their minds"
Hebrews 10:16
